The Hills are alive with the sound of gingers
Last week it was my best friends birthday. Within my friendship trio we tend to not give gifts but promise to get together and spend time together face to face. Nichol and I knew each other from a year at Art School before University and lived together for 2 years during. Having all met at University we were used to seeing each other every day, being able to stay at each others house, hang out in my living room with cracks in the walls and rips in the sofas (ah I do not miss that house) it's hard to transition to a once a month deal.
Due to us now living the fantastic post grad life we didn’t have a lot of money. We decided on a picnic in the British sunshine. Not too far from my home is a hill with a view over London in the distance and Surrey fields all around.
You couldn't tell there had been a thunderstorm the night before as we heaved ourselves and picnic bag up to the top to sit and eat under shade. We are 3 pale British people and have built in shade detectors in summer months. We found a few trees away from the cows that inhabit that field every so often. The 3 of us sat with a view of the fields and two Victorian psychiatric hospitals, now abandoned (a topic we discussed and a a piece of history I quite enjoy. /creeyiness). We ended the day with a drink in a pub.
Later on we saw Nichol home and Hannah and I watched Friends re-runs while Hannah worked and we waited for another Thunderstorm.
It was really fun and relaxing and the picnic was such a good idea. I recommend you did it with your friends.
What I like about us is that we're not big on letting you know where we are and what we're doing and how fun of a time we're having right when we’re having it. I always appreciate spending the time you’re with a person looking and talking to that person. I am extremely pro-social media and you’ll see I have no issue with people sharing parts of your life online (this blog post as an example) but it was so nice to hang out and talk to my best friends away from the wifi. I’m an 'upload after' kind of person and my two best friends are as well. I mean I only get to see those faces once a month now.
Alright guys, well this was just a little post that I wanted to do. I think it'll be nice to share events and adventures every so often. Nichol and Hannah will feature again and again I'm sure. Hannah's blog is here and Nichol blogs over at cholfable. Go and check them out, feel free to say hi.
I'm off to the sea tomorrow and hope to get my next post up Monday or Tuesday. Take care!
